Salinity Press is a website documenting the cultural, historical and pluralistic nature of Shenzhen. We strive to showcase the multi-faceted city we reside in, through original media and investigative writing covering a wide array of themes such as culture, society, food, events, locations, technology, news, history, etc. We aim to look beneath the stretch of industrial skyscrapers across the fast-growing metropolis that is Shenzhen, and we invite you to join us in this pursuit.

Why Salinity?

Shenzhen's existance revolves around salt water. The sea has been the source of trade, from the fishing villages of previous centuries, to its current status as a Special Economic Zone, also an effect of its proximity to the sea. Local life has learned to depend on the sea, and hence, local culture is shaped by it. In our pursuit to uncover the true identity of Shenzhen, we decided it would only be appropriate to address the core of Shenzhen's past and present in our name. We present to you, Salinity Press.
